28.5 weeks

We have bought a new mattress. Having slept on nice mattresses while out of town, I woke up Friday morning determined to find a new mattress by the end of the weekend. We went out that night, laid on many many mattresses, selected one, and ordered it. Mattresses are expensive, and Jay wanted a good one. So we spent a ton of cash for a nice set: 980 coils, combination latex and memory foam, medium firmness. It feels so much better than our current, 12-year-old mattress and I am hoping (wishing, praying, pleading) that it will help me sleep without the terrible hip and back pain that I wake up with about eight times each night. Unfortunately, it won't be delivered for another week and a half, but I get to spend two of those nights on a (hopefully) nice mattress while attending a conference in Lawrence. I cannot wait for that new mattress.

While we were traveling this past week I finished the little man's first hat! I combined two patterns - one for the Huck hat that I posted earlier, one for a pumpkin hat. The result is a little blueberry hat! Check out the stem and leaf - I have to say, it is quite adorable. And very easy. I can't wait to put it on his little head.

In other news, my body has thankfully traded one affliction for another, easing up on the hayfever to focus on hip and back pain. So at least I know our kitties are not the problem.

We had a midwife appointment yesterday and everything is going along as it should. The mystery man is still head-down in the proper position - we like to think of this as an early sign that we are producing a very cooperative, considerate child. My weight gain has increased a bit over the past month - I'm up to 27 pounds. He and I both had growth spurts, I think. I was definitely feeling it in my sides last week, and this week I think the extra weight is contributing to back pain. So it goes.

In general, things are very smooth. I can not believe that I could actually birth this guy in ten weeks. So soon, so soon. Here I am, in pictures taken yesterday.
